Jennifer and Ken Wed at The Umstead Hotel and Spa!

Jennifer and Ken wanted a small intimate ceremony surrounded by their families, including their kids. They chose the beautiful Umstead Hotel and Spa for the occasion and we all gathered together there the morning of June 7, 2014.
They chose two of their children to sign their marriage license as witnesses (there is no age restriction on the witnesses) and we got that done before we went outside for the ceremony. (The marriage license is signed by the officiant after the wedding--never before.)
Carrie, the catering manager hosting this wedding, led us down through the garden then out around the lake.
The waterspout is always on and looks so festive. It was a beautiful morning.
There are many secluded areas on the hotel property and Carrie took us to a spot where there were stairs so that we could stand on the steps and be easily seen by the guests standing on the boardwalk.
It was very private and we were surrounded by the lush foliage. Brittany Hines was on hand as their photographer.
It was a brief ceremony and customized to what Jennifer and Ken told me they wanted. We honored the parents and their children and remembered those that were not with us.
After the vows they exchanged rings.
The pronouncement.....
Congratulations, Jennifer and Ken! I wish you the very best forever!

Gorgeous Wedding at The Umstead for Shannon and Michael!

Shannon and Michael contacted me in February of 2013 to see if I was available for their wedding on May 2, 2014 at The Umstead Hotel and Spa. May and October are the two most popular months for weddings in our area so they were very wise to get started planning their wedding and hiring their vendors over a year in advance. That way they could be assured they would get their first choice.
When I arrived straight from a wedding rehearsal at Hudson Manor in Louisburg, their photographers, Tracie and Jennifer with Spotlight Photography out of Burlington, had the bride and her maidens in the garden for photos. That purple/magenta color is fabulous!
The garden was all ready for the wedding. The grass was freshly mown. This photo was taken around 4:30 and notice the line of the shadow from the hotel behind the photographer. By the time we started at 5:30 the line was behind us illuminating the lake. Such wonderful planning on the part of the architect of this upscale venue, or were they just lucky?
Michael and his family--father, mother and brother who was his best man.
Arioso Strings arrived and started warming up.
 The groomsmen and the groom!
So, it was time to start. I walked down the aisle first followed by Michael and his parents. Then the bridesmaids and groomsmen followed as couples.
Time for the bride and her mother. Shannon's dad is no longer with us so her mother escorted her down the aisle. The wind has  picked up a bit. That is Carrie Cassidy, Catering Manager for The Umstead acting as wedding director, straightening the veil which is the same one Shannon's mother wore for her wedding. Kelley Ann Ward, the event manager for The Umstead, has been out on maternity leave but is due back later this month.
Such wonderful colors! Flowers on Broad Street did the flowers.
Look at Michael beam as Shannon comes down the aisle!
And so we begin......Note the shadow line is almost completely behind me.
Honoring of the parents and their siblings. A sweet surprise for them from the couple. Then the story of how they met and fell in love and theirs was a really good one having met in college when a professor assigned seats alphabetically. They will forever be grateful to that professor although it took them a long time to really decide they were a couple.
They now get to hear what the other told me why they love each other and what they are looking forward to in marriage. Another tender moment with a little laughter thrown in for good measure!
They read their vows to each other where they  were printed facing them in my book.
 Exchange of rings.....
 The pronouncement of marriage!
Nice kiss as I quickly scooted out of the way!

The deed is done! Time for some photos then party time!
The happy couple pose with Shannon's mother and sister.
Shannon and Michael, what a wonderful wedding! I really enjoyed working with you and getting to know you. I hope your wedding was a dream come true and I wish you the best always!

Destination Wedding to The Umstead Hotel and Spa for Judi and Bryan!

Bryan and Judi live in South Carolina. They planned a wedding there but at the last minute there was a problem with the venue so they decided to elope and get married on Christmas Day at The Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary. Bryan had been here before and just loved it and knew it would be a great getaway. Kelley Anne at The Umstead gave him my name and number and he called me the week before Christmas to arrange it. It was short notice but since I live only about 15 minutes away, I was happy to go there and do the honors for them on Christmas Day. They had gotten their marriage license in SC but alas, it is not good in NC so they needed to get here a few days early to get their license in NC. Wisely they stopped in Charlotte and got it there on the way to Raleigh and were all set.
When Marty and I arrived at The Umstead, it was gorgeously appointed as usual and the floral arrangements stunning and reflecting the joyous holiday season.
Pine cones, Frazier fir branches and antlers!
Beautiful Christmas tree! We would have done the ceremony here but it was busy in the lobby.
So we moved on down the hallway to a very quiet area where there was no traffic on this Christmas Day at noon and more Christmas trees.
They had previewed the proposed ceremony I emailed them and loved it and did not want to change a thing.
 The vows.....
The rings....Bryan's ring was tight but Judi finally got it all the way on his finger!
I now pronounce you husband and wife!
Sealing the vows with a kiss!
Judi and Bryan, I am so glad you called me and gave me the honor of joining you in matrimony! I wish you safe travels and a wonderful married life!

Beautiful Wedding for Jackie and Stephen at The Umstead Hotel and Spa!

Jackie and Stephen went to high school together and have known each other for more than one-half of their lives. But, it was not until they went off to college and hung out with their friends when they came home that they gradually began to sense there was a little bit more than just friendship between them! So, four years ago they began dating and not soon after they both knew this was the person they were going to marry. Stephen proposed during a trip to Costa Rica in August of 2012 and they began planning their wedding which took place on September 28, 2013 at The Umstead Hotel and Spa--a gorgeous and elegant setting where all guests are treated like royalty!
And, speaking of the great staff, here is George Zellers, our sound man, and Kelley Ann Ward, our catering manager and wedding director! We were hanging out waiting for the guests to arrive and the photographer, Cara with f8 Studios, to finish with the wedding party photos.
Inside was this unusually colored cake of teal and brown. It was really quite stunning. Sweet Memories Bakery baked this up for our couple.
The ballroom was ready to go with uplighting and the beautiful florals by Tre Bella Florist.
Meanwhile, the Arioso Strings quartet was tuning up and ready to begin as the guests began arriving.
Stephen's parents, Kay and Jim, process in first.
Mother of the bride, Chom, was escorted in by her nephew Gee Won.
Stephen then walked down the aisle followed by his groomsmen.
The bridesmaids followed and now we are waiting for the bride!
Jackie was escorted in by her Uncle Ben who came for the wedding from Korea. Unfortunately Jackie's father is not living.
Jackie's dress was simply stunning and was so perfect for her!
We began with a welcome to everyone and a prayer.
This is where we are blessing and thanking their parents for their love and support.
This is where I told their story. Love doing this and having the guests enjoy it and laugh a little bit! This moment that is captured in the photo is when I was telling about the little white rabbit in Costa Rica that "led" Jackie to the pond where Stephen proposed. I was commenting to Stephen how well he set that up! Ha ha!
The vows......
The rings.....
The pronouncement......
THE KISS!!
The new Mr. and Mrs.!
Jackie and Stephen, what a great couple you are! Congratulations on your marriage and for creating such a wonderful wedding celebration!
